Philippine Food: Four Books

print / publications, filipino, book, culture, food

Four books, four publishers, one through-line: Philippine food—each project distinct in tone and format, developed across several years.

Bake Me a Cake (Fully Booked Publishing) — A recipe book by Ginny Roces de Guzman. The cover lets the typography do the work: oversized stacked letterforms that feel less like a title and more like the thing itself, wobbly and sweet.

Sarap: Essays on Philippine Food (design concept, unpublished in this form) — A re-issue of the seminal food writing classic by Doreen G. Fernandez and Edilberto N. Alegre. The cover concept grew from the photography: the title letterform bleeds into the image, half-botanical, half-typographic.

**Savor the Word **_(Anvil Publishing)_ — An anthology of essays submitted for the Doreen Gamboa Fernandez Food Writing Award, celebrating ten years of the competition held in her honor. The logo pairs a crossed pen and fork, the looping ink inspiring the fluid, script title.

At Nature’s Table (Rustan’s Marketing) — A calendar planner interspersed with recipes, produced as a promotional piece for a department store. The layout balances editorial warmth with the functional demands of a planning format.
